COLLINS BACKS GB ATHLETES
CollinsUK Athletics performance director Dave Collins defended his team's performance at the Beijing Olympics and insisted he would "bet his job" on Britain's athletes winning more than four medals at London 2012.

Britain's athletes landed four medals in Beijing - one gold, two silver and one bronze.

That was the same haul as was achieved in Athens four years ago but one short of the target set for Beijing, as Britain's cycling, rowing and sailing teams put them in the shade.

"I haven't heard anything from my CEO or chairman while I've been here," Collins said when asked about his future.

"I'm just continuing to do the same job that I've been doing, which is to try and take things forward to make sure we have all we need to make this a strong sport through 2012.

"I can't categorically promise (we will win more than four golds) but I am confident - I'd bet my job on it."
