ROGGE BACKS LONDON GAMES
IOC president Jacques Rogge is confident London will succeed in providing a successful Olympic Games in 2012 despite facing a tough task to match the scale of the Beijing Games.

The Chinese have called upon over one million volunteers for the Games, which Rogge believes have been spectacular.

"It is clear that China has put the bar very high and it's going to be a challenge for London," he said.

"I believe and hope London can put the bar even higher. There are some things that London will not be able to equal, such as the hundreds of thousands of volunteers to the sites.

"London has unique assets. It is the capital city of the country that invented modern sport, invented the rules of the sports and the values of fair play," he added.

"It is a cosmopolitan, multi-ethnic and multi-religious city and that's something they can build on."
