BRABANTS EDGED INTO BRONZE
Tim Brabants was edged into third place in the kayak men's K1 500m as a late charge from Ken Wallace of Australia secured gold ahead of Canada's Adam van Koeverden.
Brabants, who claimed gold in the 1000m event on Friday, made a solid start as van Koeverden got off to a flyer.
The Canadian was a length clear at the halfway point but started to tire in the closing stages as Brabants and van Koeverden chased him down.
The Australian edged clear with 50m to go, but Brabants just ran out of time to overhaul world champion van Koeverden and had to settle for bronze.
Brabants was delighted with his two medals, adding: "I'm very happy. I didn't have a very good start. The false start made me cautious but I have got to be happy with third. I was out in lane one and all the action was down the other side. It was a really strong field. It's been unreal."
Lucy Wainright finished seventh in the women's final and was disappointed not to improve on her position from the Athens Olympics.
"I thought I could get into the top five but it does get harder and harder every Games you come to. It is all quite close," she said afterwards.
