RELAY TEAMS MISS OUT
Britain's 4x400m relay teams were unable to get among the medals as the United States claimed a double victory in the men's and women's races.

Sanya Richards made partial amends for missing out on individual gold by anchoring the US women quartet home ahead of Russia and Jamaica.

Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu had given Britain a good start but Kelly Sotherton and Marilyn Okoro on the next two legs could only hand over the baton to Nicola Sanders in sixth place.

Sanders brought the side home in fifth in 3:22.68, more than four seconds adrift of the US.

A storming last leg from Martyn Rooney was then not quite enough as the men's quartet finished fourth.

Andrew Steele, Robert Tobin and Michael Bingham handed Rooney the baton in sixth and he almost caught Denis Alexeev of Russia on the line but had to settle for fourth.
