STEVENSON WINS TAEKWONDO BRONZE
Sarah Stevenson won Great Britain's first ever Olympic taekwondo medal after an emotional day in Beijing.

Stevenson looked out of the 67kg competition after losing 1-0 to China's Zhong Chen, only for the result to be reversed in an unprecedented move after a complaint by the British.

They were unhappy that a kick to the head by Stevenson in the dying seconds of the quarter-final clash was not scored, prompting judges to review the action on video, but with a hostile home crowd unhappy and booing her every move, Stevenson was unable to take advantage of her reprieve.

She failed to settle and allowed Mexico's Maria Espinoza to dominate the semi-final, eventually losing 4-1.

However, she recovered her composure in the bronze medal play-off to outclass Egypt's Noha Abd Rabo with a 5-1 victory to claim an historic medal for Team GB.

"I am really happy. I tried really hard to be ready but it was really difficult. I wasn't ready," she said of her semi-final defeat to Espinoza. "When I finished I was happy because I got the bronze. It's been a good day. All the ups and downs. I've come away with a medal so I'm happy."
